Against All Odds: Stockton 99 Speedway
5/1/12 - By David Holman / Stockton 99 Media Relations
In 2006, word spread fast that Stockton 99 Speedway was in line for the wrecking ball because the land owners decided it was time to raise houses instead of race car drivers. True to rumor, the final night of racing came to pass on September 16, 2006, when racers from far and wide converged on "The Toughest Test In The West" for their final chance to tame the tricky asphalt surface. It turned out to be one of the greatest nights ever at the storied venue, and the saddest. Death came quick. For the next two years, a cloak of silence fell over the Speedway and the only things to hit the Saturday-night surface were the tangles of weeds that rose through the cracks and crevices woven throughout the dilapidated blacktop.
Against all odds, at the end of 2008, Tony and Carol Noceti decided to take on the monumental task of resurrecting the old girl. Four years later, the New Stockton 99 Speedway has grown into one of the most beautiful little tracks on the West Coast. So much so, she has caught the eye of the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West, who plans their first visit in the last six years when, on Saturday, May 5th, these high-octane hotrods will roar into action in the Pick-N-Pull Self-Service Auto & Truck Dismantlers 150, which will be presented by: Budweiser Racing, Allegiant Air, Garton Tractor, Jackson Rancheria Casino Resort and San Joaquin County Chevrolet Dealerships.
This Series is a stepping-stone to the top three Series in NASCAR and will include many stars of tomorrow as well as many wily veterans. Headlining this Event will be NASCAR Drive-4-Diversity Driver, 18 year old Jessica Brunelli of Castro Valley, CA, driving the #88 Pick-N-Pull Chevy Monte Carlo in her debut at Stockton. Also, 2011 Champion, Greg Pursley of Newhall, CA, driving the Gene Price Motorsports Ford Fusion #26, will be in attendance and is figured to be a force to be reckoned with in defense of his Title this year. Early Season Points Leader, David Mayhew of Atascadero, CA, driving the #17 MMI Services/Ron's Rear Ends Chevy Monte Carlo, will be another driver who will more than likely figure into the outcome of this one. And fortunately, this is just the tip of the proverbial iceberg when it comes to the talent possessed by this Series.
Also on the Ticket for this Event will be NASCAR Whelen All American Series Grand American Modifieds, Super Stocks and the always popular Legends of the Pacific. This will not be your average Saturday Night Short-Track racing. Come out in force and support, and prepare to be thrilled.
